How to Make Your Tires Last Longer – Simple Care Tips for More Safety

Why Tire Care Pays Off

Tires are crucial for driving performance and safety, providing grip, stability, and ideally a secure driving experience. Despite this, many drivers pay too little attention to them in daily life. Proper tire care isn't a big effort, but it pays off. Regular checks extend service life, save fuel, and make driving safer. Neglected tires, on the other hand, wear out faster, increase braking distance, and can even burst in the worst case.

Keep an Eye on Air Pressure

One of the most important points is correct air pressure. Even 0.3 bar too little can increase consumption, worsen driving behavior, and cause tires to wear out faster. It's best to check pressure every two weeks or before longer trips, ideally when tires are cold. You'll usually find manufacturer specifications for correct tire pressure in the fuel cap, on the door, or in the manual. Syron tires also reward you with more stable running behavior and less wear.

Don't Underestimate Tread Depth

In Germany, 1.6 mm minimum tread depth is legally required. For more safety, however, experts recommend at least 3 mm in summer and 4 mm in winter. A quick check can be done with a 1-euro coin: if the golden edge doesn't disappear into the tread, the tires should be replaced.

Store Tires Properly

Those who use summer and winter tires should pay attention to storage: cool, dry, and protected from light. Complete wheels are best stacked lying down and turned occasionally, while loose tires should be stored standing upright. Before storage, briefly clean with water and mild detergent and slightly increase air pressure to compensate for pressure loss during storage time. Direct sunlight and moisture damage the rubber over time.

Have Wheels Balanced & Alignment Checked

During tire changes, it makes sense to have the wheels balanced. This prevents vibrations, uneven wear, and damage to the chassis or steering. If the car pulls to one side or doesn't drive straight properly, a wheel alignment may be necessary. This is especially the case after curb contact or minor accidents.

Don't Forget the Rims

Rims not only protect the wheel hub but also contribute to even force distribution. They should be cleaned regularly, ideally with a pH-neutral cleaner and soft brush. A sealant protects against stubborn dirt and makes cleaning easier next time.

DIY Tire Changes?

With some mechanical skill, you can also do the change yourself. Important: always tighten wheel bolts with the correct torque. A follow-up check after about 50 km is recommended. Tire age is also crucial: the production date can be read from the DOT number. A tire should be replaced after eight years at the latest, even if the tread still looks good.

Conclusion

Whether sporty performance tires or robust all-weather tires – with proper care you get more out of your tires. You increase safety, save costs in the long term, and extend service life. Our team is happy to help with questions about care or model selection.
